William E Middlebrook was the son of Ernest and Mary born in 1889 in Bruntcliffe, Morley. The family, in 1901 consisted of Ernest and Mary and their 2 children : William and Alice living at 9 Brunswick Street.

William Edward Middlebrook enlisted in Morley, joining the KOYLI as Pte., 34254. He died on 5 February 1917 aged 28 and is remembered at Varennes Military Cemetery, near Albert.

Noah Gomersall was born in Hunslet,Leeds in 1885, son of Noah & Caroline Gomersall .

In 1891 they lived  at 11 Brandling Street in Hunslet & in 1901 were at 21 Longwood Street. At this time Noah was 16 years of age and a brewer's  clerk.
He was enlisted, at Castleford, into the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantory. He was in the 12th battalion and his number was 12/1194.

On May 12th 1917 Serjeant Noah Gomersall was killed in action at Arras. He is buried at Bailleul Road West Cemetery, St. Laurent/Blangy, Pas de Calais, France, grave No. A3.

Arthur Scarth was born on 4 September 1887 at Tennyson Place, Morley, the son of Alfred Scarth (1846-1906) and Mary Jane (Hinchliffe) (1851-1927). On December 19 1914, Arthur married Charlotte Petty at the Springfield Independent Chapel, Dewsbury. The couple lived at 20 Cobden St, New Brighton, Morley.

Arthur enlisted in the KOYLI 6th Btn., and served as Pte., 33123. He died on 24 August 1917 aged 30 and is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

Arthur left Charlotte a widow with a young child, Kenneth to bring up. Kenneth was born on 29 March 1915.

Hedley Scarth was born in 1896 and was the son of Thomas Edward Scarth (1867-1910) and Emily Ann Bean ( -1953). Hedley was one of four children to Thomas and Emily.

Hedley enlisted in Morley, joining the KOYLI 2nd Btn., and serving as Pte., 33013.

He was KIA on 18 November 1916 aged 20 and is buried at Waggon road Cemetery, Beaumont-Hamel.

By this time, Emily Ann, his mother was a widow and living at 38 Fountain Street, Morley.

Garnet Scarth was the son of Robert Henry Scarth (1861-1919) and Theresa Harrison (1865-1895, being born in Morley.

Garnet married Ivy Smith in 1915 at Morley Wesleyan Chapel.

He enlisted in Leedsinto the West Yorkshire Regt., and served in B Coy., !st/8th Btn, as L/Cpl., 2428. He was KIA on 13 August 1916 aged 25 and is remembered at Blighty Valley Cemetery, Authuile Wood.

He left Ivy a widow with Walter, their son only 4 years old. Ivy and Walter were living at 76 Zoar Street, Morley.
